Types of Wire Looms

Wire Loom is a stiff tubing that wraps around cables to bundle and protect them. It protects long and short wire runs against vibration, moisture and other natural elements. Wire looms are perfect for cable management and managing cords into color-coded bundles that will help keep the electronic equipment in order and prevent equipment failure or fire hazards. On the market, there are several types of wire looms shown as following.

Nylon Wire Looms

Nylon wire loom is designed to provide a flexible, crush-resistant protection for wiring assemblies. The wire loom tubing is a corrugated tube used to provide protection to a wire harness or any other products that may be subject to abnormal conditions, such as continuous abrasion & vibration wear, puncturing, water, snow, ice, salt and UV rays. The convoluted surface enhances the appearance of the product by providing a uniform tailored finish. The split seam feature allows wires to be inserted easily, eliminating the costly time needed to apply tape, braid, or loom. Since the seam is not permanently sealed, the costs of repair or service are also reduced. Temperature rating is from -40°C (-40°F) to 149°C (300°F).

Split Wire Looms

Split Wire LoomSplit wire loom is one of the most popular wire looms used for protecting and holding wires and cables in place. This is mostly due to the dependability and durability of the tubing itself. The slit on the tube runs down the whole length, making the act of inserting and taking out wires an easy process. Once the wire run is inserted, the split remains closed, even when the tubing is curved, preventing debris and moisture from attacking the wires that are housed inside, which will significantly increases the longevity of an application.

Split wire loom tubing is available in a range of different diameter sizes, run lengths and material. Diameter sizes range from 0.25 inch to 2.5 inches. Lengths vary from 100 feet (great for smaller projects) all the way to 28,000 feet (ideal for large scale or multiple projects). Materials differ from the three offerings below, including standard polyethylene, high-temperature heat stabilized nylon and flame retardant polypropylene. The varying material types of split wire loom are mainly used in vehicles and applications, such as automotive, marine, industrial and emergency equipment.

Colored Wire Looms

Colored wire loom is a cable organizer and cable protector that is made of polyethylene convoluted tubing. Colored wire loom comes with split loom which offers easy installation: just open the tubing along the slit and insert the wires. It is also highly flexible, resists gas and chemicals, and secures your wires, cables or even small hoses.

Colored wire loom

Color wire loom is suitable for use in many industries, such as automotive, computer/ electronics, farm/agricultural, marine, recreation vehicles, telecommunications, construction and specialty markets. It is resistant to auto fluids and chemicals and has an operating temperature range of -40°F to +200°F (-40°C to +93°C).

Heat Shrink Fabric Looms

Heat shrink fabric loom is a unique mixture of polyolefin and polyester yarns that shrink to 1/2 its original diameter. It ‘s designed primarily to provide mechanical abrasion protection for components such as rubber hoses, plastic pipes and harness wiring bundles. Heat shrink fabric loom provides outstanding abrasion, chafing and cutting protection, even at high temperatures. Its woven construction makes it highly flexible and resistant to trapping water, heat and humidity.

Heat Shrink Fabric Loom

Heat shrink fabric loom is used in wide-range applications such as electrical wiring in trucks, cars, boats, as well as for use in home entertainment centers, video games, and home and office PC ‘s.

Flame Retardant Wire Looms

Flame retardant wire loom tubing is a premium grade wire covering and is used in higher temperature applications such as engine compartment wiring. The wire loom is coated with a fire retardant material to snuff flames caused by a catastrophic failure such as a short circuit. Flame retardant wire loom meets UL rating for flame retardancy, and has a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. Manufactured from durable nylon and corrugated to provide optimal flexibility and strength.

Flame Retardant Wire Loom

Flame retardant wire loom protects wires from abrasion and other damage resulting from exposure. A full length slit allows for easy insertion of the wire and cable and remains closed after installation. And 1/4 inch inner diameter with a corrugated outer wall makes the loom extremely flexible and crush resistant.
